Parliament, Vice Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, and the Chair of the Korea-Türkiye

National Assembly of the Republic of Korea’s Deputy Speaker Joo Ho-young will pay an official visit to Georgia and Türkiye from August 18 to 26 to meet key parliamentary figures, with the goal of strengthening bilateral relations, establishing new parliamentary networks, and promoting parliamentary-level economic, public, and veterans diplomacy.
In Georgia, the Deputy Speaker will meet with the Parliament’s Deputy Chairperson Giorgi Kakhiani and Foreign Relations Committee Chair Nikoloz Samkharadze to explore ways to deepen cooperation across various sectors, including the economy, infrastructure, logistics, and tourism. More specifically, he plans to focus on expanding high-level parliamentary exchanges, signing a Korea-Georgia Economic Partnership Agreement, involving Korean companies in local infrastructure projects, and launching a direct flight route.
In Türkiye, Deputy Speaker Joo will hold a meeting with Vice Speaker of the Turkish Parliament Bekir Bozdag and Chairman of the Korea-Türkiye Parliamentary Friendship Group Oguzhan Kaya. They will discuss enhancing parliamentary exchanges, expanding Korean companies’ participation and investment in major projects, and encouraging Türkiye’s participation in the MIKTA Speakers’ Consultation, set to be hosted by South Korea next year. After the meeting, he will stop by Korea Park in Ankara, lay a wreath at the Korean War Memorial, and meet with Turkish veterans who served during the war.
The upcoming visit to Georgia marks the first by National Assembly leadership since 2019 and follows an official visit by Georgian Parliamentary Speaker Shalva Papuashvili to the Republic of Korea in 2022. The latest visit is expected to contribute to reinforcing parliamentary cooperation between Korea and its key partner in the Caucasus region.
Deputy Speaker Joo’s visit to Türkiye also will be the first by a high-level Korean parliamentary official to the country since the start of the 22nd National Assembly, raising expectations of strengthened networks with Türkiye’s new parliamentary leadership and further elevated relations with a strategic partner and major contributor to the Korean War.
Deputy Speaker Joo will be accompanied by lawmakers Kim Tae-nyeon (Democratic Party of Korea), Kim Sung-won (People Power Party), Lee Jae-gang (Democratic Party), and Kim Jae-sub (People Power Party).
