The National Assembly of the Republic of Korea (Speaker Woo Won-shik) will host the 20th National Children's Assembly on July 26 at the National Assembly.

Inaugurated in 2005, the National Children’s Assembly marks its 20th anniversary this year. It has provided children from around the country with the opportunity to experience parliamentary democracy in action, enhancing their future capabilities as citizens and deepening their understanding of parliamentary politics.

Sixth-grade students from elementary schools nationwide will have the opportunity to draft legislative bills and inquiry letters to address community issues. They will also visit the National Assembly to present and debate their proposals, thus experiencing the legislative process firsthand.

This year, a total of 862 children from 117 elementary schools are participating, leading to the submission of 103 legislative bills and 61 inquiry letters to the National Assembly following engaging discussions and negotiations among the children.

The National Children's Assembly consists of morning committee sessions and an afternoon plenary session. During the three committee sessions, which begin at 10:20 a.m., young lawmakers will explain their proposed bills, engage in debate, and then vote to select seven bills that will be forwarded to the plenary session.

During the afternoon plenary session, 61 child assembly members will participate in:

▲ question-and-answer session with government officials; ▲ presentation and voting on the best legislative bills; and ▲ selection and awarding of Grand Prize, Gold Prize, and Excellence Awards.

Speaker Woo Won-shik, Deputy Speakers Lee Hack-young and Joo Ho-young, National Assembly Secretary General Kim Min-ki, and Minister of Education Lee Joo-ho are expected to attend the afternoon plenary session. The plenary session and awards ceremony will be broadcast live on National Assembly TV's YouTube channel.
