Diplomacy Groups

Parliamentary Diplomacy Group

Parliamentary Diplomacy Groups are formed within the National Assembly to support diplomatic activities between parliaments. The Groups comprise Parliamentary Diplomacy Forums, Parliamentary Friendship Groups, and the Republic of Korea-China Regular Inter-Parliamentary Exchange.

Parliamentary Diplomacy Forum

The National Assembly launched Parliamentary Diplomacy Forums in June of 2019 to ensure prompt responses to major diplomatic issues and promote public diplomacy at the parliamentary level. The Forums are chaired by senior members who have served at least three terms. At present, 11 Parliamentary Diplomacy Forums have been established for the U.S., China, Japan, the EU, and other regional blocs.

Parliamentary Friendship Group

A Parliamentary Friendship Group is co-organized by parliamentarians of the Republic of Korea and another country. By participating in mutual exchange programs and bilateral activities, members seek to deepen their understanding of the other country and pursue closer cooperation in political, economic, cultural, and societal affairs. The 21st National Assembly has formed friendship groups with 115 countries.

Republic of Korea-China Regular Inter-Parliamentary Exchange

The Republic of Korea and China signed a bilateral parliamentary cooperation protocol in 2006 and formed a Regular Inter-Parliamentary Exchange in a bid to enhance their amicable relations. The two parliaments have been holding joint meetings regularly.
