Speaker Kim grants incentive to cheer sailors
of ROK Navy destroyer set to depart
- Encouragement to sailors embarking on a long journey
intended to safeguard Koreans’ lives and interests
National Assembly Speaker of the Republic of Korea Kim Jin-pyo granted an incentive of KRW 15 million to sailors to encourage seamen of the 42nd contingent of the anti-piracy Cheonghae Unit who in February will embark on a lengthy journey to the Gulf of Aden off Somalia.
Speaker Kim encouraged the sailors of the Cheonghae Unit, including those aboard the destroyer Daejoyeong, who are embarking on a long journey aimed at safeguarding the nation’s people and protecting national interests. He urged them to take care of their health and safety, complete their missions, and return safely.
The Cheonghae Unit was established on March 3, 2009, to ensure the safety of civilian ships passing through the Gulf of Aden, and has successfully completed multiple overseas missions involving anti-piracy operations, ship escorts, and support for safe navigation. The destroyer Daejoyeong will depart for waters off Somalia in early February to replace troops aboard the Yangmanchun destroyer carrying the 41st rotation of the Cheonghae Unit.
