to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the ROK-US alliance
- Political leaders, government officials, and figures from military, religious, and business circles gather to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the ROK-US alliance and pledge to its future development
The Republic of Korea’s National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo on April 26 co-hosted a ‘Reception in Celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the ROK-US Alliance’ at the National Assembly.
The reception was attended by ▲key figures such as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Chairperson of the National Election Commission, and the Chairperson of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; ▲government officials including Ministers, Vice Ministers, the President, and the President’s Chief of Staff; ▲representatives and members of each political party; ▲Chargé d'Affaires Ad Interim at the U.S. Embassy Seoul; ▲Commander of the Eighth United States Army; ▲ambassadors to the Republic of Korea from countries that participated in the Korean War; ▲officials involved in Korea-US friendship groups; ▲religious figures; and ▲business leaders.
In his congratulatory speech, Speaker Kim emphasized that the National Assembly would expand and develop the ROK-USA alliance towards a common prosperity, citing the ‘Special Resolution for Steady Development of ROK-USA Diplomatic Relations in Commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Bilateral Alliance.’ He then noted the need to build a framework for a new parliamentary diplomacy based on the alliance’s history and importance, and to create a Korea-USA Parliamentarians’ Union.
Prime Minister Han remarked that the bilateral alliance has strengthened the two countries’ cooperation across all sectors, including security, the economy, and advanced technology, on the basis of shared values such as freedom, democracy, human rights, and constitutionalism. He asked for the attendees’ support for the alliance, which has been upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership, so that it can achieve even greater successes over the next 70 years.
Joy M. Sakurai, Chargé d'Affaires Ad Interim at the U.S. Embassy Seoul, and Willard M. Burleson III, Commanding General of the Eighth United States Army, underlined the importance of the ROK-USA alliance as one of the most successful alliances in history and expressed their wishes for President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife’s successful visit to the United States.
During the reception, dignitaries, officials, and other people from home and abroad concerned with the ROK-USA alliance sat together to commemorate its 70th anniversary and wish for its further development, demonstrating unified support for the values and sound future of bilateral ties.
