Speaker of the Republic of Korea’s National Assembly Woo Won-shik participated in a civil defense drill held on August 22 at the National Assembly’s Main Building.

The drill, held in conjunction with the Ulchi Exercise, simulated a wartime scenario and included an emergency evacuation drill, in which participants swiftly moved to a shelter following an air raid alarm, as well as training in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for emergency first aid. Speaker Woo physically participated in the drill, including the CPR and first-aid response exercises.

During the event, Speaker Woo emphasized that “With North Korea’s nuclear threats and recent extreme weather such as downpours and heat waves, the ability of not only national institutions and public officials but also individuals to respond to emergencies and disasters is more critical than ever. I urge everyone to constantly improve your emergency response capabilities through practical civil defense training.”

He added, “We will work hard together with all staff to protect the National Assembly, a key national institution, from crises and disasters.”

Other participants in the drill included National Assembly Secretary General Kim Min-ki, Senior Secretary for Political Affairs Kwak Hyun, and Senior Secretary for Policy Lee Won-jeong.
