The Republic of Korea’s National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik attended the welcome dinner for the 10th Global Korean Politicians Forum held at the Fairmont Ambassador Hotel in Seoul on August 20, where he encouraged the participants.

Speaker Woo praised the role of Korean politicians abroad, stating: “Korean politicians have served as a strong bridge between their respective countries and the Republic of Korea. They have achieved meaningful milestones by transforming our culture and history into shared global memories, with events like Korean Heritage Month, Kimchi Day, National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day, and efforts for resolutions on justice for victims of Japan’s sexual slavery of Korean women during World War II.”

He continued, “Amid growing competition for technological supremacy, global supply chain crisis, and rising geopolitical instability, diplomacy to maximize national interests is becoming more intense. I hope we can work together to address these pressing global issues and contribute to peace on the Korean Peninsula.”

Speaker Woo then expressed hope that political activities of Korean politicians in their respective countries and diplomatic efforts of the National Assembly will lead to closer cooperation. He concluded the speech, by saying: “As the slogan of this forum states, ‘Our network is our asset,’ I expect the strong global connections of Korean politicians will empower each other and serve as the foundation for the shared prosperity of both their home countries and Korea, contributing to global progress.”

The event attendees included People Power Party lawmaker Na Kyung-won, Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Lee Ki-heon, and Commissioner of the Overseas Koreans Agency Lee Sang-deok. The 10th Global Korean Politicians Forum running from August 20 to 23 this year brought together 96 participants from 14 countries, including Yonah Martin, the first Korean-Canadian senator in Canada, and Sylvia Luke, the first Korean-American lieutenant governor in the United States.
